Prime Warden of the Fishmongers’ Company 2016-17: Nigel Bankes

Nigel was educated at Eton and completed his education teaching for a year at Trinity College, Kandy, Sri Lanka under the auspices of VSO, followed by extensive work and travel in the USA.

He is married to Juliet who has just completed an MA in Printmaking at Camberwell College of Art and who is exhibiting at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition this year. They have three children: William, a lawyer;  Louisa, a doctor; and Fiona, a teacher.

Nigel has spent his whole working life undertaking various roles in the pub and brewing business.  He was:

  • Divisional Director, Whitbread 1989-2000
  • Chairman, Timothy Taylor 2000-2015
  • CEO Tomahawk Pub Company 2002-2009

He has been Governor of Bloxham School, near Banbury since 2004 and Chairman from 2010 to 2016.  He is also a Governor of Gresham’s School, Holt

His interests include golf, tennis and walking.  He and Juliet have walked extensively in Italy and France and are currently undertaking the Coast to Coast route, in sections, from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay.

He joined the Livery in 1975 and was elected to the Court in 2002.
