Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) Conference - Fishmongers' Hall, 7th June 2011

6/14/2011 10:00:00 AM

120 delegates gathered at the Hall for this ground-breaking Fishmongers’ Company sponsored collaboration between the Association of Rivers Trusts (ART) and Rivers and Fisheries Trusts of Scotland (RAFTS). This network of 62 charitable rivers trusts operating throughout the British Isles is becoming increasingly active in the control of aquatic and riparian and non-native species. The conference learned that INNS cost the UK economy £1.7billion a year and that the Rivers Trust network was now playing an active role, in partnership with government agencies, in delivering INNS control in our river catchments. Delegates included high level representation from the European Union, the GB Non-Native Species Secretariat, DEFRA, the EA and Scottish public agencies as well as strong representation from the Rivers Trust network. Conference proceedings will shortly be available on the ART and RAFTS websites: www.rafts.org.uk and www.associationofriverstrusts.org.uk.
