Olympics 2012

The Company is supporting Freeman Claire Bennett with an annual contribution towards her training costs in her endeavour to qualify for the 2012 Olympics in Fencing. She has also been selected for the World Class Performance Pathway Programme, which aims to give the UK’s top athletes every chance of realising their potential in the lead-up to London 2012 by providing access to the most professional and advanced training methods.

Claire captained the England Women’s Foil Team at the Commonwealth Fencing Games in Melbourne last October and won an Individual Bronze medal and a Team Gold medal. She had a good start to the 2011-2012 season but, after suffering a foot injury, missed two World Cup events but later competed successfully in China and South Korea. She qualified for the European Championships in Sheffield in July and is now focusing on ensuring selection for the World Championships in Italy at the beginning of October. Claire is currently ranked 2nd in her sport in Great Britain.

Claire is also an aspiring sports journalist and broadcaster, and members may be interested to see her personal blog at www.claire-bennett@blogspot.co.uk in which she provides regular updates on her progress.
